When you cool your home with the use of a central air conditioning system, then you want to learn what to do if you have issues you can take care of on your own. You also want to recognize when a problem may warrant a call to an HVAC technician so they can come and take care of it for you. Here are some things you want to know about things that can happen and what your course of action should be:
Your air isn't turning on to cool the house
If you find yourself sitting in a hot house when you know you turned on the air, you want to start with the easiest thing to fix which would be to making sure no one else turned the system off at the wall thermostat, verifying that it didn't get bumped off of 'cool' mode, checking the temperature it is set at to verify it's lower than the actual house temperature, checking out the fuse box and making sure the power cord didn't get damaged.
Your central air unit is making new noises
Central air conditioning systems are often preferred by a large number of people for many reasons, one of them being that they tend to be one of the quietest ways to cool a home. There will be some sound to them and you will get used to those sounds. Anytime you hear new sounds you want to verify that there isn't anything like a piece of paper in the air return filter that could be causing a weird noise. If you can't easily find the source of the noise then a technician needs to be called out to look at the system and fix the problem.
Your air conditioning system is blowing but the air is warm
If the central air is blowing out air, but it is warm then you want to again verify the temperature it is set to and make sure it isn't just set to 'fan.' If this isn't the issue then you should place a call to have someone come out to diagnose and repair the system. You may have a leak which is causing the coolant to all leak out so there is no way it could cool the air, the system may be having issues with freezing up on you or there may be other issues that need professional repairing.
